Words as Creative Law
What if every word you speak is a spell casting your future into form?
Not an exaggeration. Your words shape reality — creating the laws of your life.
We’re in Chapter 3: THE POWER OF THE WORD from Florence Scovel Shinn’s The Game of Life and How to Play It.
Shinn’s example:
- Father: “I always miss the bus.” → He did.
- Daughter: “I always catch the bus.” → She did.
Each spoke their outcome into being — one of failure, one of success.
Superstition vs. Expectancy
Charms (rabbits’ feet, horseshoes) have no intrinsic power.
The moment you say, “This brings me good luck,” you program expectancy into your subconscious. Belief, activated by words, is the real wand.
Caution: do not outsource power to objects. Two businessmen shifted their faith from prayer and affirmation to a pair of “lucky monkeys”; their businesses crashed. When they tossed the monkeys and reclaimed inner authority, success returned.
Power isn’t in the object — it’s in belief + intention. Objects are only triggers.
Facing Fear Breaks the Spell
A friend feared walking under ladders — a “bad omen.”
Shinn: Believe in one power (Good), and there’s nothing to fear.
Challenge: “Walk under the next ladder.”
At her bank, a ladder blocked her safe-deposit box. She panicked, walked away, then chose courage and returned — the ladder was gone.
This is nonresistance: meet the thing without fear and it dissolves.

The Vibratory Force of Words
Because words carry vibration, what you voice, you begin to attract.

The root was subconscious resentment; love dissolved it.
“Who’s the Matter?”
When something’s wrong, don’t ask what — ask who.
Whom must you forgive? What resentment are you feeding?
Your only real enemies are the ones within.
Goodwill Is Spiritual Technology
A man feared a competitor stealing his sale. Shinn:
- Erase fear.
- Know divine order prevails.
- Bless the competitor all day.
- Be willing to lose it if it isn’t right.
At the meeting, he was calm and nonresistant; the competitor’s machine failed and he landed the sale — effortlessly.
Love your enemies; bless them. Goodwill creates a protective aura and dissolves inner enemies, so none remain outside.
Daily Practice
- Guard your mouth. Speak only to heal, bless, prosper.
- Replace complaint with affirmation of what you intend.
- When fear appears, choose nonresistance and act from peace.
- When stuck, ask: Who must I forgive?
