Win The Secret Game That Controls Your Life (Chapter 1 Explained)
Have you ever felt like life is a constant battle? A daily struggle against circumstances, people, and maybe even yourself?
What if I told you that you’ve been looking at it all wrong? Life isn’t a battle — it’s a game. And once you learn the rules, you can become a master at playing it.
Welcome to Frequency Chapters — chapter summaries enhanced with sound frequencies for focus, healing, and abundance.
Today, we’re diving into a classic that has transformed countless lives: “The Game of Life and How to Play It” by the incredible Florence Scovel Shinn.
We’re going to unpack the powerful secrets from the very first chapter, enhanced with a Solfeggio frequency called Prosperity.
The First Rule: Giving and Receiving
The first rule of this game is simple, yet profound — it’s a game of giving and receiving.
You might know it as Karma, or the Law of Sowing and Reaping. Whatever you send out into the universe — through your words, thoughts, or actions — comes right back to you.
If you give criticism, you’ll receive criticism. It’s like a cosmic boomerang — what you throw is what you catch.
Have you ever complained about being lied to, only to realize you’ve been telling a few white lies yourself?
Have you hoped for kindness, yet spoken unkindly?
The universe doesn’t judge — it simply reflects.
The Imagination: The Scissors of the Mind
There’s another player in this game — and it’s arguably the most powerful one you have: your imagination.
Proverbs tells us to guard our hearts, our imagination, with all diligence, because from it flow the issues of life.
Your imagination is like the director of your life’s movie. It’s constantly creating the scenes that will eventually play out in your reality.
Shinn calls imagination “The Scissors of the Mind”, always cutting out the pictures you hold there. Sooner or later, you meet those creations in your outer world.
This is why what you focus on — expands.
Have you ever worried about getting sick? Shinn tells the story of a man who imagined illness so vividly that it eventually manifested in his body. He became a victim of his own imagination.
That’s a scary thought — but it reveals a powerful truth:
If your imagination can create negative outcomes, it can just as easily create positive ones.
Understanding the Mind
To play the game of life successfully, you must train your imagination to focus only on the good you want to bring into your life.
Think of the mind in three parts: the subconscious, the conscious, and the superconscious.
The subconscious mind is pure. It’s like a genie in a bottle — ready to grant your wishes, but it doesn’t think for itself. It acts on the instructions it’s given.
Whatever you feel deeply or picture clearly gets impressed upon your subconscious, and it will work tirelessly to bring that picture to life.
Shinn gives a striking example: as a child, a woman loved to play “widow.” She’d dress in black and pretend to mourn — it was all in fun. As an adult, she married a man she adored, but he soon passed away. She spent years in mourning, wearing the very clothes she once imagined.
Her subconscious had fulfilled the picture she had impressed upon it.
The Conscious and the Superconscious
The conscious mind is your everyday thinking brain — the voice of logic, reason, and doubt. What it sees, it impresses upon the faithful subconscious.
But beyond both lies something greater — the superconscious mind, the God-Mind within you.
This is the realm of perfect ideas. Plato called it the “Divine Design” — the perfect pattern for your life.
There’s a place only you can fill, something only you can do. Your superconscious mind knows this plan and often reveals it through your intuition or big dreams.
Many of us chase things not meant for us, leading to disappointment.
Shinn tells of a woman desperate to marry a certain man. The woman begged her to “speak the word” to make it happen. But Shinn refused — you can’t override someone’s free will.
Instead, she affirmed for divine selection — for the right man to come.
Eventually, the woman met a new man who adored her completely. She fell in love and forgot the first. This is the Law of Substitution — when you let go of what isn’t right, the universe fills the void with what is.
“Seek first the Kingdom of God — the realm of right ideas — and all these things will be added unto you.”
The Power of Words
Your words are powerful. “By your words you are justified, and by your words you are condemned.”
Shinn tells of a woman who once lived in abundance but grew tired of managing her large home. She often said, “I’m so sick of all these things. I wish I lived in a trunk.”
Eventually, her life shifted — she ended up living in a small room with all her belongings in a trunk.
The subconscious mind has no sense of humor — it takes your words as commands.
Another woman joked for years about “getting ready for the poorhouse.” Within a few years, she lost her fortune.
But the good news is: this law works both ways. You can speak yourself out of lack and into plenty.
Faith, Intuition, and Abundance
A woman once came to Shinn completely defeated — she had only eight dollars left.
Shinn told her to bless the eight dollars and multiply them, just as the loaves and fishes were multiplied.
Then she asked, “What’s your hunch? What does your intuition tell you to do?”
Her hunch was to go home to a distant city. It made no logical sense — but Shinn told her, “Never violate a hunch.”
She also gave her this affirmation:
“Infinite Spirit, open the way for great abundance.
I am an irresistible magnet for all that belongs to me by divine right.”
The woman followed her intuition, reconnected with an old family friend, and soon received thousands of dollars.
Your good is always on your path — but you must claim it through faith and the spoken word.
The True Object of the Game
Fear is your only enemy. It’s just faith in a negative outcome.
Instead of having faith in failure, have faith in success.
Instead of faith in lack, have faith in abundance.
The object of the game is to see your good clearly and erase all mental pictures of evil. Impress your subconscious with good — and good will manifest.
The Command to Transform
Shinn ends the chapter with a powerful command to clear negative patterns. Place your hand on your heart and say it aloud:
“I now smash and demolish every untrue record in my subconscious mind.
They shall return to the dust-heap of their native nothingness,
for they came from my own vain imaginings.
I now make my perfect records through the Christ within —
the records of Health, Wealth, Love, and Perfect Self-Expression.”
Feel the power in those words. You’re taking control of your mind, your words, and your destiny.
This is the Square of Life — the game completed.
You have the power to change your conditions by changing your thoughts and words.
