Denials and Affirmations (Chapter 10 Explained)

The Secret Language of the Universe

Did you know that every word you speak is a command to the universe?

Each phrase — even your “idle words” — is a seed planted in the fertile soil of your subconscious, growing into your future reality.

Welcome back to Frequency Chapters, where we explore frequency-enhanced chapter summaries for focus, healing, and abundance.

Today we’re unlocking Chapter 10: Denials and Affirmations from Florence Scovel Shinn’s timeless classic The Game of Life and How to Play It.

This chapter is a masterclass in conscious creation — teaching you how to decree your desires into form and align with divine abundance.

The Power of the Spoken Word

Shinn begins with a declaration straight from Scripture:

“Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee.”

This isn’t metaphorical — it’s a spiritual law.

Everything you desire — health, wealth, love, purpose — already exists as a perfected idea in the Divine Mind.
Your job is to release it through your spoken word and recognition of it as already yours.

But here’s the catch: your words must be precise, intentional, and anchored in faith.

The Danger of Idle Words

Most people unconsciously decree failure.
Each time you say, “I’m always broke,” or “Nothing ever works out for me,” you are issuing a powerful negative command.

Your subconscious obeys.

Shinn teaches that the universe takes you literally — there’s no humor or nuance in spiritual law.

You get exactly what you decree.

The Divine Selection Clause

When you make a demand, you must include the phrase:

“Under grace, in a perfect way.”

This ensures your manifestations unfold without struggle, harm, or imbalance.

Shinn recounts a sobering story: a woman demanded $1,000 and received it — but only through an insurance payout after her daughter’s accident.

The words were correct in intention but incomplete in law.
Her demand should have been:

“Infinite Spirit, I give thanks that the $1,000, which is mine by divine right, is now released to me under grace, in a perfect way.”

This safeguard applies to every desire.

When you ask for “your right home, right friend, right position,” add —

“…under grace and in perfect ways.”

It guarantees harmony in the outcome.

The Consciousness of Wealth

You can only receive what your consciousness can hold.

If you believe you deserve $600, you’ll never attract $1,000.

To expand your results, you must first expand your belief.

Shinn tells a legend about a poor man who received what he thought was a gold nugget. Convinced he was rich, his life transformed — though the “gold” later proved to be brass.

He became rich not because of the metal, but because of his belief in wealth.

The real gold is your consciousness of opulence.

How to Build Prosperity Consciousness

Affirmations are your daily architect’s tools.
They impress new ideas into the subconscious until they crystallize as experience.

Speak from the end state — as though it’s already done:

“Before ye call, I shall answer.”

You’re not begging — you’re claiming what’s already yours in Spirit.

Each repetition strengthens faith until the invisible becomes visible.
It’s rejoicing in the desert before you see the oasis.

The Bridge of Active Faith

Faith must be embodied, not theoretical.

Shinn tells of a woman who needed a large sum of money. While shopping, she felt drawn to a pink paper cutter. Her rational mind resisted, but her intuition whispered, “You need something worthy to open letters containing large checks.”

She bought it — and within weeks, the money arrived.

The paper cutter became her bridge between belief and manifestation — a physical anchor for her inner conviction.

The Subconscious Obeys Faith

Another story: a man trapped in a sealed room smashed what he thought was a window to breathe. He instantly felt air and slept peacefully — only to discover in the morning that he’d broken a bookcase door.

The window remained shut.
His faith had created oxygen.

The subconscious responds to belief, not conditions.

Stand Firm — Especially at the Eleventh Hour

“Let not that man who wavers think that he shall receive anything of the Lord.”

The moment before breakthrough often feels like collapse.
That’s when most people quit.

But when you let go — when you stop forcing outcomes — Infinite Intelligence rushes in to finish the work.

At the “eleventh hour,” surrender becomes power.

Impatient Desires & Literal Manifestations

Shinn warns that impatience distorts results.
One woman repeatedly said, “I wish I could get rid of my glasses.”
Her subconscious complied — by breaking or losing them.

She should have affirmed, “I see perfectly with the eyes of Spirit.”

Your words define the form of your experience.
Always affirm the perfect solution, not escape from the problem.

Casting the Burden

When you’ve spoken your word, release it completely.

“I cast this burden on the Christ within, and I go free.”

A woman once cried out this phrase during a storm after her umbrella broke — moments later, an umbrella mender appeared and repaired it.

There is always a solution waiting on your path — but it only appears when you surrender the struggle.

The Dynamic Duo: Denials and Affirmations

Shinn outlines the formula: deny the false, affirm the truth.

Example for healing:

Denial:

“I deny this appearance of disease. It is unreal and cannot register in my consciousness.”

Affirmation:

“This person is a perfect idea in Divine Mind — pure, whole, and radiant.”

The denial wipes the mental slate clean; the affirmation paints the divine picture anew.

Visioning vs. Visualizing

Shinn distinguishes between visualizing and visioning.

Visualizing uses the conscious mind to imagine an outcome.
Visioning is higher — it’s the reception of divine pictures from the superconscious.

You don’t invent them — you receive them.
They arrive as flashes of inspiration, intuitive knowing, or symbolic dreams.

When you can sincerely say,

“I desire only that which God desires for me,”
you are entrusted with new blueprints — the Master Architect’s design for your life.

Don’t Build a Bungalow When You’re Meant for a Palace

God’s plan is always expansive — the “Square of Life”: health, wealth, love, and perfect self-expression.

Limitations are self-imposed.
Raise your expectations.
Trust that Infinite Intelligence intends the highest and best for you.

The Rules of the Game

The principles of creation are simple:

  • Fearless Faith — Know that your word has power.
  • Nonresistance — Stop fighting appearances.
  • Love — Bless every person and situation.

Through the renewal of your mind, you become transformed — bringing heaven into your earthly experience.

Affirmation:

Infinite Spirit, open the way for my right desires to manifest.
All that is mine by divine right now comes to me under grace in perfect ways.
My word is my wand — and I speak only truth, abundance, and peace into form.

Your words are your wands — wield them wisely.
